They lied to me when they said "Everyone speaks English". This isn't exactly true. Lots of learning to do.
- I took the train to Wil today ~ pronounced veel.
- I bought 5 plastic hangers for 3.20 CHF. Plastic as in what American get free when you buy a shirt.
- They don't sell pizza sauce in the grocery store. So tonight I made my own. Not too bad, but it will need some work. If anyone out there has a recipe, send it to me.
- Cost to make pizza ~ 3CHF. Atleast my favorite food can be cheap.
- People stare at me. Apparently I look funny.
- No stopper for the kitchen sink. I search and search and discover a vent for the kitchen sink. (see below picture).
I arrived in Switzerland this morning! I'm ready for my year long European vacation! Here is the day in a nutshell:
- Checked into my apartment. It is much bigger than expected (2 bedrooms). This means that my visitors will have a bed to sleep in.
- There is a washing machine in the basement. NO dryer. This I find ironic considering that my company make driers, not clothes driers, but it's still funny.
- Grocery shopping was EXPENSIVE. 4 Eggs for 2.30 CHF (Swiss Francs) roughly $2.48.
- You must pay for all of the grocery bags.
- You can buy cow milk that is good for 3 months and it's not refrigerated. I find this weird, but agreed to try it while also buying 'regular cold milk'. I was told that the 'regular cold milk' goes bad quickly. I looked at the date and it is good until March 11th. Same as milk in the US, just a different perspective over here.
That's all for now. Time for bed.
Peanut Butter is hard to find. Instead the Swiss love nutella. But Barilla and Bertolli are names I know even if I can't read anything else |
Mayo in a tube? But no "Bring out the Hellmans, Bring out the Best" |
Now this I can read! |
Funny Milk. No refrigeration required until opening. Ewwwww.... |
Cool! Sounds like it was a good first day!
